Subject: Summer Workout Updates

Due to the recent uptick in cases throughout our state and the most recent EXECUTIVE ORDER (No. 2020-147 Masks) the Fowlerville Community Schools will now require all student-athletes who attend workouts to wear a mask or face covering while in common spaces. Common spaces include pre-screening, temperature check lines, and any congregating of students during the downtime before or during workouts. Athletes will not be required to wear the mask during workouts but they may be asked to “mask up” if a walk through drill cannot adhere to the six-feet physical distance requirements.  

The differing and sometimes contradictory messages from various groups has created doubt and uncertainty, and some families may find this decision inconvenient or objectionable. Every family will need to make a decision regarding their child’s participation in the voluntary activities that we are providing. Under the current circumstances, and as a proud Michigander who wants to see us in Phase 5, I believe that we must take this step if we want any hope of a safe return to school and playing sports.  Our kids deserve that chance!

We are being judged, and if we can’t follow the rules now we won’t get a chance to play by the rules this fall.  It is important that we make safe decisions at school, at the beach, at graduation parties, and at the stores. We are at a critical crossroad in determining the future of school, athletics, extra-curricular activities for the fall and for the entire 2020/2021 school year. We must do the right things NOW at workouts and in our community to have the best chance of getting school and our lives back to normal in August and beyond.

Starting Monday, July 13^th, 2020 all Student-Athletes and coaches are required to wear a mask outdoors in common places where physical distancing of at least six feet cannot be achieved.
